Fiji:


What a way to start our adventure… A ‘short’ 12 hour airplane ride!! But the destination will be incredible, especially in December, FIJI. After arriving in Nadi, Fiji our plans include staying at the Sheraton Royal Denarau Resort. The backpacking and camping part of our adventure will start a little later. We have to ease into this travel thing!! During our 4 days (this includes a day we lost go to Fiji Gallerysomewhere over the Pacific Ocean) at the Denarau Resort we plan to see as much as possible of Viti Levu Island and the beaches.

We’ll rent a car for a one day tour of the island but haven’t decided whether to head north on the Kings Highway or south on the Queen’s Highway. Then we board the tall ship, SV Spirit of the Pacific Windjammer for a 3 day cruise of the Yasawa Island Group. New Years Eve will be spent on a small island where the accommodations will be a simple bure (traditional thatched dwelling). After a tough day swimming, snorkeling, island treks and village visits the evening will include a feast cooked in a pit oven.

There may be an ‘adult beverage’ included. Oh darn, we’ll have to do the same thing again the next day and come back to this same island again for another evening of food and drink. I guess practice makes perfect. After arriving back at Nadi, we’ll spend one more night at the Denarau Resort, then its off to the airport for our flight to New Zealand.
