Peru:
After several days of enjoying the ocean and beaches of Rio it’s time to go climb a mountain. The mountain is at Machu Picchu. Danny is meeting us in Lima and we will fly direct to Cuzco. After a couple of days seeing the town and adjusting to the 11,000 ft. elevation we will begin a 4 day trek of the Inca Trail to the mountain cliffs where Machu Picchu sits. Since we must trek with a guide and porters who will carry the camping equipment and food, we will only be carrying our clothes which be a good thing since we will be climbing to over 13,000 feet on our way to these ruins. We will hope for good weather since the views and scenery are incredible. After a day of hiking around Machu Picchu we’ll take a train back to Cuzco where a comfortable bed and shower will feel very good and with a couple of more days in the town.
Then it’s off to Lake Titicaca by train where we will see South America’s largest lake and the world’s highest navigable lake. The site seeing list will include the fairy tale islands on the lake. From here it will be time to fly back to Lima then on to (can you believe it) the United States. We’ll spend about two weeks in New Jersey visiting Pat’s parents. Then home……….. to reality!
Where's Pat and Mike?
